Portrait of Lahore – Capital City of the Punjab

“Building upon the success of its inaugural event, the second international THAAP conference was held in 2011, focusing on the heart of the region: ‘Portrait of Lahore: Capital City of the Punjab’. At THAAP, we believe that the present identity and cultural worldview of any society are deeply rooted in its historical journey. Under the intellectual leadership of Pervaiz Vandal, this conference aimed to look beyond the mere physical structures of the city.

The 2011 conference projected Lahore not just as a collection of monuments, but as an integrated human endeavor. The discussions explored the layers of history, tradition, and socio-cultural evolution that have made Lahore a living museum of the Punjab. Scholars and experts deliberated on how the city’s beliefs and value systems have been shaped over centuries, emphasizing that the true ‘portrait’ of a city is painted by the lives and stories of its people. This event reinforced THAAP’s commitment to documenting regional culture from an indigenous and human-centric perspective.”
