The inaugural THAAP Conference held in 2010 marked a significant milestone in the intellectual landscape of Pakistan. Titled ‘Historiography of Architecture in Pakistan and the Region’, this gathering recognized the intrinsic link between history, tradition, and culture. Under the editorial guidance of Pervaiz Vandal, the conference acknowledged that our present-day value systems and worldviews are profoundly shaped by our historical past.
The primary objective was to challenge conventional narratives and project diverse viewpoints in the writing of history. A strong academic consensus emerged during the sessions: history only acquires true meaning for a society when it is written from the perspective of its people. This conference laid the foundation for THAAP’s decade-long journey of documenting the cultural and architectural DNA of the region.
