THAAP Crafts is the social enterprise wing of THAAP, dedicated to the socio-economic empowerment of marginalized communities, particularly women artisans in rural areas. We believe that traditional crafts are not just relics of the past but viable sources of sustainable income. By providing design interventions and market access, we transform indigenous skills into a contemporary creative economy. Our mission is to ensure that the artisan remains at the center of the value chain, receiving fair wages and the recognition they deserve as the true custodians of our cultural identity.
At the heart of our craft initiative is the revival of the ancient “Ustad-Shagird” (Master-Apprentice) system. Many of Pakistan’s most intricate building and domestic crafts—such as Kashikari (tile work) and Naqqashi (fresco)—are on the verge of extinction because the chain of knowledge has been broken. THAAP facilitates specialized workshops where master craftsmen train a new generation of apprentices. This ensures that the technical secrets of traditional motifs, natural dyes, and material preparation are passed down authentically while meeting modern quality standards.
Reviving Kashikari (tile work), Naqqashi (fresco painting), and Pinjrakari (wood lattice work) for modern interiors.
Promoting regional embroidery styles like Phulkari and Ralli through contemporary fashion updates.
Researching and implementing eco-friendly, traditional dyeing processes using indigenous plants and minerals.
Equipping artisans with financial literacy, quality control, and digital tools to manage their own small businesses
